Van Gils Autumn Winter Collection – a story in the making

Van Gils - Gabucci Menswear Bath

Van Gils took us to South America for the spring summer collection with their ‘Gijs’ character. For autumn winter he’s off to the Austrian Alps.

We have no idea what he’s really up to and Van Gils themselves suggest it is a story that you make up for yourself, they supply the exciting images and you fill in the blanks, only saying the images show the suits in situations where they are put to the test.

No matter what, he does seem to be having a great time and even rescues a tiny ‘toy’ deer, having to go bare foot in a stream to do so.

The pics are below – see what you make of them but whatever story you come up with be sure to visit us in bath and see the suits for themselves, we think that is where you’ll find the happy ending so richly deserved.

Paris Men’s Fashion Week – shorts are back!

Paris Men’s Fashion Week – shorts are back! Statement socks thankfully are still in.

Paris Fashion Week Socks In - Gabucci, Bath

Just a week after Milan where we learnt shorts were out and that smart tailored suits were the summer style, the French have confounded everything and thrown runways full of shorts at us – and not just shorts, we have shorts with socks and sandals, and from Louis Vuitton, socks and sandals even with leather scuba shorts!

Rick Owens had a model with short shorts and boots, and a leather saddlebag strapped to one thigh. And he was not alone. It appears micro shorts with tailored suit jackets work well together (at least we can provide the latter), with the aim of showing the maximum thigh.

Our favourite though – Comme des Garcons’s glittering red, yellow, purple and golden pink evening shorts.

And socks are big too – with or without sandals. Sports socks again with tailored suit jackets and colourful statement socks – finally something up our street.

This is a style we do appreciate and can help you achieve – statement socks and tailored suits, London, Paris and Milan. And in Milsom Street Bath.

Milan Men’s Fashion Week: suits in shorts out no matter how hot

Milan Men’s Fashion Week: suits in shorts out no matter how hot

Milan Fashion Week Suits In - Gabucci, Bath

GQ revealed some interesting fashion tips from Milan Fashion Week.

Suits are very much in, tailored and beautifully cut – no matter that the temperatures in Milan are currently 34 degrees, even hotter than Bath.

Shorts and sports influenced wear are much less prevalent amongst the front rows of the catwalks perhaps pointing to end of these trends.

Unfortunately male rompers are going to be rampant at Milan, well there may be a few making an appearance. We aren’t going to be stocking any at Gabucci but if you can’t miss this latest trend, we found this brilliant Kim Jong Un one in the states.

The Statement Sock

The Statement Sock

Pantherella - Gabucci Menswear Bath

The Guardian has an article in it today about the men’s fashion microtrend for statement socks – far better than ‘mankles’, the trendy term for wearing shoes with no socks, a statement socks actually says something positive about you.

It allows you to express something of your true personality through a splash of colour or distinctive design, and it’s a lot more comfortable than wearing leather shoes with sweaty bare feet.

Our recommendation would be socks from Pantherella which we stock in Milsom Street, Bath and John Smedley which we have in Bath but also available online. We also stock Pantherella ‘invisible socks’ in store so that you can have that ‘mankle’ look without the discomfort!

We have both subtle and vibrant designs to suit your mood and the occasion, and in cotton/linen mixes and soft merino wool.

According to the Indepenent’s fashion pages, yellow is the colour for men to be seen in – but they do qualify that

From mustard to zingy lemon, chartreuse and fizzy sherbert, yellow is officially the new accent shade in men’s fashion.

It is the range of colours in that spectrum that allow you to mix and match both cool fresh colours with warmer tones to create a look that suits you.

And as you would expect, at Gabucci Bath we have just the items you need to create that look.

Our range of John Smedley cashmere, merino wool and cool cotton fabrics come in an amazing range of colours including these below.

The Bath Festival starts with Party In The City, a free event across the city centre tonight including Milson Street, renamed Carnival Street for this evening.

With 2000 performers and an expected 20,000 plus revellers, it is going to be a fantastic night.

And if you need something special to wear for the event, can we recommend a Claudio Lugli shirt as nothing else says party quite so well.

Bath Festival itself runs right through to May 28th with events and talks from speakers as diverse as Helen Fielding (Bridget Jones) and Harriet Harman.

An Opportunity to Recreate Mens Fashion from the 17th Century

tabbed gauntlet glove Bath Fashion Museum

The Fashion Museum in Bath is holding a major exhibition until January 2019 which is well worth a visit for both mens and womens fashion.

Called A History of Fashion in 100 Objects it celebrates fashion from the 1600s to the present day. The exhibition features 100 important objects from the Fashion Museum’s collection, showing key styles that have defined era after era for the last 400 years.

Bath’s Georgian heyday is on show, as is Regency fashion from the time of Jane Austen and the exhibition comes right up to date with iconic Nike Air trainers from the 90’s. And so are the tabbed gauntlet gloves from around 1600-1620, above.

But on Saturday, June 17th you will be able to see not just the gloves but experience something of the skills and work required to create them.

Royal School of Needlework Tutor, Kate Barlow will be teaching a bespoke embroidery class at the Fashion Museum based on the pair of men’s tabbed gauntlet gloves.

Open to everyone and of any experience, the class will recreate the embroidery and gold decoration which covers each of the tabs of the gloves, creating long and short stitches using silk floss and Couching with gold threads on Silk Duchesse satin.

For more information on the course and the exhibition, click here for the Fashion Museum in Bath’ site.

The Bond from Berlin – Roy Robson’s latest promo

We love this great take on Goldfinger by Roy Robson to promote Spring Summer 2017 suits.

‘In gold fever you can secure your chance on pure gold’ at least that’s what we think it means! What we do know is they are a great german fashion house who make superb suits. Founded in Berlin, they are now based in Lüneburg near Hamburg. They have a reputation for clothes that are very stylish and have a certain something that sets them apart.

We have a good stock in at the moment but as ever these suits tend to sell quickly, so visit us in Bath if you want to be seen as a very continental gentleman. Add a pair of our Richard James of Saville Row socks though for quality, style and absolute Britishness too, just in case.
